After completing a major a business pitch for the Clemson Alumni Association and listening to other presentations, I realized how pertinent the internet is in today’s communication and outreach.  People were focusing on how great and monetarily practical it is to utilize the forums on the internet to attract new members, to get information out, and to keep in touch with others. But most surprisingly was the amount of times blogs came up. The real question is: would people read a blog?

As is apparent through those who may be currently reading this blog, the answer is yes, people will read a blog. But who would you as an alumni – or even as a current college student – like to read a blog from? The president of your alma mater, the alumni association, or other key players in the university? Or do you find information is more apt to appear directly via those involved with the “action” on campus, like the students? I just find it intriguing how great a player blogs have become and what a great tool they are developing into as a means of administering information and working as a communication mechanism.

While currently enrolled at Clemson, I would gladly read blogs from President Barker and other current students. As a graduate, though, if I knew it would be beneficial to learning about new networking methods and how to stay connected to the Clemson community, I would gladly read a blog from the CAA.  I think it would be a wonderful way to keep communication strong not just one way via mail and such from the CAA, but a response forum as well from the alumni with other alumni and the CAA.

So keep blogging, and look for your alma mater’s association online and blogs!!
